In Math today, Rooms 12 and 15 learned how to divide decimals by 10, 100, and 1000. Both classes got a lot of work done, and both classes have Practice Book Lesson 5.1 to complete tonight, both sides.
We also did two days' worth of "Morning Math." The Monday and Tuesday sections of the worksheet should be done by tomorrow. I'll collect it on Monday. For Science class. Room 12 played "Eat or Be Eaten," a card game designed to reinforce the idea of a food chain with predators, prey, consumers, and producers. Room 15 saw a film about this concept, and will play the same game next week. No Science homework.

I gave students in Rooms 12 and 15 an opportunity this morning to improve the grades on their Chapter 4 tests by letting them redo some of the items they got wrong the first time through. The mistakes they made were those that I felt could be rectified by just a little more instruction.
Students who had already achieved a good grade on the test worked on some challenging problem solving and math puzzles. Tomorrow we'll all start a chapter on division of decimals. In Science, both classes learned a little about producers, consumers, and decomposers in the food chain. No homework for Room 12; Room 15 has a Science worksheet to finish, using their textbooks (pgs 103-105). Both classes tried the Chapter 4 (Multiplication of Decimals) test in class today. Results were mixed. I'll provide additional help tomorrow for students who haven't yet achieved a passing score. No homework tonight in Math.
In Science, Room 12 took another look at living things that help each other, whether from the same species or different ones. We also watched a video on why snow is white! We worked a little on our writing projects about composting, and on a worksheet about Chapter 4, Lesson 1. Both of those are due tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who used the Sign Up Genius link to volunteer treats and snacks for our holiday party on the 21st. Remember to provide a list of ingredients for any food item donated (the list on the box/bag of bought goods is sufficient, too).
Today in Math, we got ready for tomorrow's Chapter 4 test. Homework is to complete or look over the Practice Test we worked on in class. Both Rooms 12 and 15 have this assignment. Only Room 15 had Science. No homework there. This is a second early dismissal day. Mrs. Schonberg came in to help both classes with a writing project on composting and worms. Room 15 had 45 minutes of math, but there is no homework tonight.
This week's "Morning Math" sheet should be passed in on Monday. Students can work on this a little bit every night, or do the whole thing over the weekend. You can download a copy of it on the "Documents" page of this website. Since it was a short week, students are only responsible for the "Tuesday" and "Wednesday" sections. Extra credit will be given for more than that. |
