This morning we reviewed long division and the kids did a boat load of problems on their own to hone their skills. Homework is in the Practice Book, Lesson 2.1, both sides.
The link to the online Practice Book is https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/content/hsp/math/hspmath/go_math_2012/na/gr5/practice_book_se_9780547588674_/launch.html. I also put the link on the Google Classroom, and will send it out via e-mail. Can you let me know if the links don't work for you?] In Science we re-studied for a vocabulary quiz, which I'll give tomorrow. To help the kids make up for any poor grades on last week's Science test, we'll do a special project on Thursday and Friday.

It was good to see and meet so many parents and guardians last night at Back To School Night. One parent suggested that I put a link on the website to the 5th grade Math Practice Book pages. It's a capital idea, and one I should be able to follow through on this weekend.
Today we took the Chapter 1 Math test. In Science we continued our preparation lessons for writing a five paragraph essay in October. Have a great weekend-- no homework tonight! We wrestled with some word problems in math class today.. and we threw them to the mat. Done! We also have a Practice Test to complete tonight about everything we've learned in Chapter 1 in the Go Math book. The actual test is this Friday.
In Science we talked about how to write a good essay, with an introduction, main ideas, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. I reminded everyone of our Science test tomorrow.. they have several study papers to help them with this. Today, we played BINGO in math to help us review for Friday's test on Chapter 1 in the Go Math book. Also we practiced our Order of Operations, using the PEMDAS acronym (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, Addition and Subtraction).
Homework is Lesson 1.12 in the Practice Book., both sides. In Science we played KAHOOT to help us with studying for that test on Thursday. Homework is to study, using the study sheets the kids got in class. Thanks to Anais and Ava for their continued help in typing this daily blog! Today, both math classs completed the Freckle Benchmark Assessment. The assessment covered all of the material the kids will learn in 5th grade, so there were a lot of questions we didn't know the answer to... yet. We'll use the results as a starting point from which to see the students' growth and improvement over the course of the year.
No homework over the weekend. |
