The students in Room 12 have been real troopers this week, coping with the hot humid weather and trying to concentrate in the heat. We studied some more about invertebrates in Science class, and started a discussion about the stages of a butterfly.
In math we continued to tackle division with two digit divisors. I had a meeting during Room 12's math period, so they saw it in a different way, but we're all getting to the same mathematical place. I'm out of school tomorrow on a personal day, so have a great weekend-- no blog entries until Sunday night.

On Monday and Tuesday this week, I'll be passing back the graded Math and Science tests from last week. Students receiving a grade below 70% should bring the test back to school signed by a parent or guardian. I will also e-mail or call these parents/guardians to talk about what may have caused the low grade.
Thanks to everyone who is participating in the SchoolStore.com fundraiser. Our classroom is still in need of some items, and the gift cards and purchases made via the fundraiser will be a big help. By parent request, I'll be trying to post notice of every day's homework early in the morning in the "Homework" section of this blog. If for some reason, the assignment changes over the course of the day, I'll post the change after school. Did you know that every Friday is "Woolie Pride Day" in the 5th grade at Shaw? Students are encouraged on Fridays to wear their Woolie colors and Woolie gear to school to demonstrate school spirit and display our class unity. Today, the students in Room 15 got their study sheets for the upcoming Science test. You can download a copy of the study sheet on the "Documents" page of this website. Room 12 students didn't have Science class today, so will have their test on Friday, not Thursday.
Students also brought home an envelope describing a new fundraising opportunity for Shaw School. I showed the kids a video explaining everything, too. Anyone who brings the envelope back tomorrow with the special Student Code written in the provided blank receives a prize. The Chapter 1 Science test will be this Thursday-- here's a link to the Quizlet: https://quizlet.com/_3pkysi We also have a math test on Unit 1 this week. I will help the children prepare for this test by giving out a practice test the day before the real one. We'll go over it and provide extra practice and help for anyone who needs it.
Hi 5th graders and families-- wear your outfits for Picture Day tomorrow. Our time to have pictures taken is 10:00 a.m. anyway, so there won't be time to "run the mile" in P.E. class! No math homework for Room 12 tonight. Room 15 has Lesson 1.9 in the Practice book, both sides.
