Today the class worked on a STEAM project for three class periods. They made devices that would remove apples from water without bobbing for them!
Then in the afternoon the kids made filters to purify the water after it had been gunked up with apple shavings, potato chips (don't ask), and sand. No homework tonight. Have a safe and happy Halloween night.

Tonight's homework in math is to complete a practice quiz called "Travel the Blue Road to the West." The real quiz is on Friday.
There's a typo on the worksheet.... Item C should say 1/10 instead of 1/100. Students should continue to use the study sheet they got in class yesterday to get ready for their Science test on Monday. Tomorrow students may come to school dressed for Halloween if their outfit is school and age appropriate. No masks, no fake weapons, no props, and nothing that promotes violence, even in a kidding way. We also have a day-long STEAM project tomorrow in Science class..."Bobbing for Apples." The kids found out about it this afternoon and may already have some ideas. Today in Math we rounded decimals. We rounded a lot of them, but some students are still struggling. Have your 5th grader put their best effort in, and we'll help everyone some more tomorrow.
In Science class we learned about the carbon cycle and about invasive species in our ecosystem. Homework is Practice Book 3.4, both sides. We also have a Science test next Monday, November 4th. The students got a study sheet this afternoon to use in preparing for the test. A letter went home today from the school office, outlining the way we're celebrating Halloween at Shaw this week. The kids can dress up if they follow the guidelines in the letter.
We have a Science test on November 4. A study sheet will go home tomorrow. In math we worked on comparing decimals. Homework is Practice Book lesson 3.3, both sides. Quiz on Friday. We also have an all day STEAM project on Thursday. OK, not ALL day, but three class periods of it, and that seems like all day when you're with ten year olds. :) Good job by both classes today!
No homework for the weekend. SOCKTOBER update--- Green Team and Red Team Win! The whole school wins, because we provided so much for the needy! |
