In Math today, both classes learned how to find least common denominator and use it to find equivalent fractions. Both classes have Practice Book 6.4 (both sides) for homework.
In Science we all worked on our climate projects. They're due on February 7th.

Today in Science class, Room 12 students began a weather/climate project... to design a brochure advertising a city or other place in the world in terms of its climate and the activities that can be done there. Room 15 didn't have Science due to Second Steps.
In Math, both classes worked on estimation with fraction addition and subtraction, and have Practice Book Lesson 6.3 to do for homework. Today, the students in Room 12 looked at the three main types of clouds, and did a little art project to reinforce the knowledge in Science class. Room 15 looked at the first lesson in the next chapter, which is about weather.
Both math classes continued their discussions of the addition of fractions with unlike denominators, using fraction tiles for reference. Homework is to make sure that all three sections of "Morning Math" from this week are done by Monday. At 8:00 this morning, everyone in the school gathered in the gym to hear about the Boosterthon fundraiser. Your 5th grader will bring a paper crown home today with information about how to participate. There are prizes and award to be had for raising funds, and a fun theme to go with the whole thing.
No homework in Math or Science. Room 12 took a quiz today on the water cycle, while Room 15 used cotton, black construction paper, and glue to make models of cumulus, cirrus, and stratus clouds. In Math, both classes used fraction tiles to do addition of fractions with unlike denominators. In Science class today, students from Room 15 completed a quiz on the water cycle. The kids in Room 12 played a couple of class games and took notes on the information in them to prepare for their quiz tomorrow.
In Math we worked on some long division and fraction work using the laptop computers, then had a brief introductory lesson on the addition of fractions(Room 12 only) or fraction values (Room 15). Homework is to continue to work with the website IXL.com-- sections D.12, D.13, L3, L4, and/or L.5. for twenty minutes or more. Students with no computer access have told me already about it in class, and I'll provide an alternative. |
