Today in Math class, Room 12 did a STEAM project on building catapults. This is part of the exchange I promised the students back when we stole several Science period to get ready for the math MCAS. We'll be back to a regular schedule tomorrow.
Room 15 took a quiz on magnets and magnetism, and worked on some assignments from last week on sound and on magnetism. In Math, Room 15 started a lesson on triangles, then enjoyed Community Reading Day with our town manager, Dave Marciello, as guest reader! And he brought them lollipops, much to the chagrin of the Room 12 students...but that's another story. Today, Room 15 started the last chapter of the math book, Chapter 11 on Geometry. They found the polygons presented there pretty easy, so we'll move on to triangle types tomorrow. Homework was Practice Book 11.1, both sides.
Meanwhile, Room 12 studied three dimensional figures, classifying them as polyhedrons, prisms, pyramids, and the like. No homework. In Science, Room 15 has a quiz on magnets and magnetism on Wednesday. There's a link to the Quizlet I set up for studying on my Google Classroom page. The kids know how to get to it. We also finished up our study of the Science of Sound Tomorrow is "Step Up Day," where the kids in both homerooms will meet their 6th grade teacher for next year! Today, Rooms 12 and 15 presented their "Science of Sound" posters to their classes. Room 12 also heard about a STEAM project to be done next week entitled "Catapults." No, it doesn't have anything to do with cats.
In math, Room 12 learned about different kinds of quadrilaterals, while Room 15 spent the period wrestling with problems involving elapsed time. |
