Today we took a quiz on division of decimals. The homework is to have the Monday through Wednesday sections of this week's Morning Math sheet done by tomorrow.
In Science we had a little holiday celebration with food, fun, and a very Grinchy movie for both Rooms 12 and 15. Thanks to everyone who donated food, drinks, or other items! There's a vocabulary quiz in Science tomorrow. There's a link to a good study Quizlet under the "December 17" entry to this blog.

We took advantage of our double math period this morning to engage in a STEAM/Engineering project. The question was, "How many snowmen can you assemble in two minutes?" Students were split into teams of four or five students to build snowmen, assembly-line style, from clay, craft store eyes, toothpicks, straws, and twist ties. They looked at some math questions about the project as well.
Hence, no math homework tonight. We did break out a little math in the afternoon, but not enough for a new assignment. In Science, we still have a vocabulary quiz scheduled for Friday. In Science today, we practiced identifying producers, consumers, decomposers, herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores, in preparation for our vocabulary quiz on Friday.
In Math we divided decimals. Lots of decimals. Lots of beautiful decimals. We have Practice Book 5.4, both sides, to do tonight for homework. TOMORROW IS WINTER HAT DAY. Tomorrow is "Winter Hat Day." TOMORROW is WINTER hat DAY. In Math today we looked at a very difficult topic, estimation of decimal quotients using compatible numbers. I encouraged every student to do their best on the homework. I can understand if there's difficulty with the lesson, as the class was just introduced to the ideas today. Have your 5th grader do the best they can, and call it a night. Homework is in the Practice Book, Lesson 5.3, both sides, for both classes.
We have a vocabulary quiz in Science on Friday. There's a link in the entry below this one (December 17) to a Quizlet to help with the studying . The students also received a study sheet in class. Here's a link to a Quizlet for this week's vocabulary quiz in Science.
