Field trip today to Old Sturbridge Village. We're still working on our "Science of Sound" posters in that subject, and in math, Room 12 will study quadrilaterals and triangles tomorrow, while Room 15 reviews elapsed time and metric conversions.
By all accounts, the Shaw students behaved well at the Village. Good reports from all of the chaperones.

Today in Math, Room 12 studied polygons, the first chapter of the last unit in our Go Math book. Things went pretty well, so I assigned Lesson 11.1 in the Practice Book with great confidence. In Science, both Rooms 12 and 15 worked on their "Science of Sound" posters, begun last Friday.
Room 15 spent math class looking at conversions in the metric system, with Lesson 10.5 for homework. Tomorrow, the seniors from Millbury High School will stop by at about 10:30 to be cheered on by Shaw School students as they parade with caps and gowns around the hallways. Students are encouraged to wear WOOLIE PRIDE GEAR to liven things up and show their town spirit! Today, both Rooms 12 and 15 learned a little bit about the science of sound and sound waves. Tomorrow they'll do some research and report on it to their class.
In Math today,Room 15 got ready for a quiz on Chapter 10 tomorrow (10.1 through 10.4), while Room 12 reviewed metric conversions and worked in some math stations I set up around the room. Today, Room 12 saw a Discovery Museum presentation on Green Engineering. They did a few experiments with natural insulators like dirt and clay, and tested out certain insulation techniques for a pretend space capsule. Very cool.
In Science both Rooms 12 and 15 worked on their Magnets and Magnetism Web Quest, and a word search to help them remember the important terms. Room 15 tried some difficult problem solving in class using customary measures of length, volume, and weight. Homework is Practice Book 10.3, both sides. In Science today, the students in both rooms worked together in groups to come up with an oral explanation for their classmates of their "kitten carriers" from last week. In math, Room 12 reviewed conversions in the customary system (inches to feet, pounds to ounces, etc) to ready themselves for a quiz on Monday.
Room 15 didn't have Math, as we were occupied completing the Science and Technology MCAS test, Session 1. |
