October. Socktober. Socktumber. Octumber. No matter how you spell it, tomorrow is the last day of the Sock Drive for the needy. What a great response we've had so far! The homeroom that brings in the most socks tomorrow wins a special snack prize from Mr. Tuccio.
Tonight's math homework is Practice Book lesson 3.2, both sides. Students are encouraged to wear polka dots and/or stripes tomorrow to show their Fifth Grade Spirit! Shaw spirit! School spirit! Yeah!!!

Today we began a chapter about decimals. It will last for a couple of weeks. The class did a great job with it today, and have a puzzle worksheet for homework.
In Science we read about Bessie Coleman, the famous aviator. We wrote a summary about the three main ideas. Friday is a special SPIRIT day for 5th grade-- students are invited to wear stripes or polka dots to show their Shaw pride. Keep the socks coming-- Blue Team is in the lead!!!! Yes, it's SOCK-tober. Thank you very much for all of the donations of new socks for the needy. Keep 'em coming-- it doesn't take much, and it's for a good cause. We're on the "Blue Team," and have collected 27 pairs of socks together already... good for 2nd place in the color standings.
Did you sign your 5th grader's progress report? Thanks! Did you send it in with them to school? Thanks thanks! No written homework tonight. We completed a math test all morning. THREE, count them, THREE important announcements for the weekend.
1) The math test is Monday. The kids should look over their practice tests from today on Sunday evening to make sure they avoid the same errors on the "real test." 2) SOCKTOBER begins on Monday. Donate a new pair of socks for the needy and help our BLUE TEAM win a Crazy Sock Day! 3) Progress reports for first term went home with students today. Please sign the bottom portion and return it to school via your 5th grader on Monday. Thanks! If your child's time is split between two parents/guardians, let me know and I'll make a copy for whoever needs it. |
