Oh no! Look who forgot to post the daily news yesterday. Groan...
Today in Science class, Room 12 heard about a possible STEAM project for next week. We need some materials to be brought from home, so I sent an e-mail out describing what we're looking for, and I put the slide show describing the project on my Google Classroom page ("About" section). The materials most needed are marked with a star in the slide show. Also, Room 12 has a test on Friday about energy. There's both a study sheet and a Quizlet to help the kids study. The study sheet is attached to the e-mail I sent out about the STEAM project, and is also available both on the Google Classroom page and the "Documents" section of this website. Room 15 didn't have Science today due to Second Steps. In Math, Room 12 took a Mid-Chapter quiz on Chapter 9, while Room 15 took a look at some line plots and coordinate grids in preparation for a quiz tomorrow.

Room 15 had a shortened math class today so that we could attend the Student of the Month assembly. A fine time was had by almost all. During class we took a look at making line graphs from data.
Room 12 had the full math class, and studied a similar topic. No weekend homework was assigned to either group. In Science class, Room 15 looked at thermal energy in more detail, as well as how energy changes from one form to another. Room 12 continued their discussion of static and current electricity. Today we took the MCAS Math test (Part 2). The Room 12 students were very cooperative and followed directions very well. We then had some extra recess time, played some math games, and called it a morning. But in the afternoon, we made up for it by reading and writing about static electricity and electric charges. Joy!
Homework tonight is to complete one of the two worksheets we worked on in class. The first one requires use of the textbook, while the second requires use of Google Classroom. You can download them in the "Documents" section of this website. Students will need to log in to Google Classroom and go to the "About" section to see the website. Tomorrow, we'll take Part 2 of the MCAS Math test. Please make sure that your 5th grader has a good book or two to read in the event he or she finishes early... and encourage them not to finish early in the first place, as they should be carefully completing each problem they see!
Today Room 12 students took a look at the graphing of data using line graphs, while Room 15 had "one last review" of fraction and decimal concepts and algorithms. No homework tonight. |
