We took Session 2 of the ELA MCAS test this morning. The Room 12 kids were very cooperative and seemed to be working hard.
This afternoon, Room 15 worked on a writing assignment about energy, which is due tomorrow. Room 12 played a couple of games to help them identify the types of energy. No homework for them. Copies of the writing assignment directions can be downloaded in the Documents section.

Both Room 12 and 15 looked at division with fractions today. Room 15 is just starting the chapter, while Room 12 is finishing it and will have a Tuesday test on all of its topics.
We watched the "Birds of Prey" presentation in the afternoon, and that took the place of Science class for both rooms. Have a great weekend! In math, Room 12 learned Lesson 8.5 in the Go Math book, ending our chapter on division of fractions rather quickly. There will be a test next week. In Science, they shared some of their paragraphs on energy, and played a game involving old MCAS questions.
Room 15 began studying division of fractions after examining their Chapter 7 tests. In Science they looked at kinetic and potential energy a little more before taking some notes on other different kinds of energy. Homework: Room 12 has Practice Book 8.5, while Room 15 has none (didn't get to the end of the lesson yet). This morning we took Session 1 of the ELA MCAS test. It was a long assessment, but many students really took their time and did their best work! We took a lunch break, had Technology class, then had Social Studies and Science for the rest of the day.
In Science, Room 12 worked on the paragraph essay they started yesterday about the different types of energy. The assignment is due tomorrow and will count for a quiz grade. See the "Documents" section for a copy of the assignment and rubric. Tomorrow, 5th graders at Shaw will take Session 1 of the 2018 MCAS test. Accordingly, no homework was assigned, so that the kids can get to bed at a decent hour and get plenty of rest. Please encourage your 5th grader to do his or her best on the assessment and show everyone what they've learned this year!
In class today, Room 15 took the Chapter 7 test, while Room 12 practiced division with fractions and whole numbers. We had Second Steps this afternoon with Mr. McKeon and Mrs. Buntin, so only Room 12 had Science class, where we began paragraphs about the different kinds of energy. |
