My calendar says that tomorrow is August 7th. That means that in two weeks, I'll be going to Millbury High School for a big meeting with all of the teachers, principals, and administrators who work in the Millbury Public Schools. It also means that right after that, on Wednesday, August 23rd, it'll be time for 5th grade! The Wooly on the left seems pretty excited about it, so I figured I'd better start getting ready, too. By now, many of you will already have gotten your school supplies for 5th grade. Do something smart for the very first day... bring only the supplies you really need. If you bought a package of 24 pencils, leave 22 of them at home, and bring two. Just two. Two is all you'll ever need. Then the other pencils won't feel left out. They can stay safe at home until you need to bring one of them to class. I got a peek already at our daily class schedule. Our team goes to the "switch class" right after the pledge and intercom announcements, at 8:15. This means you're going to have to be organized about the way you come to class first thing in the morning. It'll be a little different on the first day (August 23rd), but right after that you have to get used to being ready to walk to a different classroom shortly after you come in. This means stopping only briefly at your locker when you arrive at school. It means thinking about what books you need and what books can be put away until later. It means making sure your homeroom teacher has any notes from home, any notices that needed signing, and any forms that you want sent to the school office. I'll give you a hand with remembering what to do, and it's up to you to concentrate and get things done as quickly as you can. On the first day, just walk into the gym, look for me, and I'll give you a name tag. Mrs. Friedman will talk to everyone for a while, the we'll go down to Room 12. There, you can look for the desk with your name on it, and sit down to listen to directions. The first day is always a bit different from the rest of the school year. That's all for now-- see you in a couple of weeks! Check back here again before school starts, as I may have additional announcements and news.
